Meaningful Activities in Care Homes - West Eaton Nursing Home
At West Eaton we recognise that the transition from home to a care home is a big challenge for both our clients and their families as established roles, routines and habits are lost. The Activity Co-ordinator routinely adapts the programme in response to the wishes and
needs of individuals.
What is a meaningful activity?
Provide joy to the people living within a home environment
Provide the residents with a sense of well-being
Provide residents with a choice and variety of activities to engage in
Enable residents to join in and belong to something worthwhile
Provide a sense of belonging
Engage all residents living with Dementia no matter what stage individuals are experiencing
Encourage intergenerational contact
Provide stimulation through body language, conversation and actions
Provide a sense of community
At West Eaton we achieve the above through activities that are educational, encourage reminisce, socialising and moving. Our residents enjoy the following activities:
Cheese and Cider and listening to records afternoon
Real life experiences – outings / shopping and visiting places like The Courtyard.
Music experiences that include singers and Beat It.
Arts and Crafts
Giving people a variety of activities enables them to make a choice as to whether or not
they want to get involved, listening to residents also give them the power to make those
choices therefore fulfilling their well-being. Everyone likes to be listened to.
