A poem about Dementia

I am a sparkler

I used to dazzle like a bright light

Dancing way into the night,

I used to flash, crackle and pop

Twirling until I just couldn’t stop

I used to be used to write other peoples name

Although now my life is not quite the same

My sparkle has weakened and I am slowly burning out

I move much less now, without a doubt

I still enjoy the chance to dance

And watching others at a glance.

The music sometimes helps me recall,

Of feeling so lively and so tall I am sparkler you see

Please please remember me

I can still dance and have a smile on my face

Just be patient and give me space.
